Planned Inspections
Regular inspections are an essential component of any safety management program / system. These inspections can take the form of filling in equipment registers, completing workplace physical condition checklists, task specific checklists and safety rep checklists. Whatever the method used however, it is important that at least the following requirements are met:
- Inspections to be undertaken on a regular basis
- Inspections are to be thorough to be of any value
- Checklists must be vessel / task specific
- There must be visible follow-up on findings
- All areas and operations covered
- The legal requirement for inspection is met
- These records are to be kept
HSE Auditing System
Auditing of the System is essential in order to determine degree of compliance with set requirements. Auditing can (and should) be carried out by 2independent sets of auditors; company management / Skipper and outside independent auditors. The results of both audits should be brought to the attention of all personnel having responsibility in the area involved; as well as recommendations and deadlines for correcting of deviations found.
