Notices & Signs
The relevant notices, covering electricity, machines, fire, protective equipment, etc. should be conspicuously displayed. Hazardous, combustible, corrosive and other dangerous substances used on the vessel should be clearly labelled. Use symbolic safety signs where possible to aid easy recognition of hazards.
Suitable safety warning signs should be provided in the required areas, especially where there are hazards which are not readily apparent. Make sure these signs are displayed so that they are clearly visible to persons working in or entering the area.
Areas that need warning signs include:
- Chemical hazards;
- Eye hazards;
- Falling object hazards;
- Foot hazards;
- Machinery hazards;
- Noise hazards;
- Radiation hazards;
- Refrigeration hazards
Providing signage by itself is not a means of controlling the hazard; rather it is one possible component of a control system.
Photo luminescent signs & markings are excellent for marking out escape routes and assembly stations as these can be seen in the event of a power failure.
